Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC 2006
Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is native Friulan varietal with a long tradition.
Hand harvested in early October, the bunches were carefully destemmed and the fruit was then crushed. Fermentation was carried out with maceration on the skins at controlled temperatures, in stainless steel tanks. The juice was pumped over the cap frequently for about three weeks, in order to extract colour and aroma compounds from the skins. Pressing was carried out after fermentation. The wine is racked into small French barriques where it aged for roughly 12 months. The bottled wine was aged in temperature-controlled binning cellars for a minimum of four months.
Reviews: “dal Peduncolo Rosso” = red stem. This is a red with an attitude. Black cherry, cassis, herbal, oak - tar, spicy and gamey aromas. Medium plus bodied with fresh acids and a medium intensity tannic grip. Fruit and high spicy notes linger on the finish. Needs food with attitude and the traditional cingiale (wild boar) pops to my mind. 4 out of 5 stars”. Zoltan Szabo
“Dense ruby-black in colour; floral, chocolate, inky, spicy nose; dry, tannic and tight with evident acidity, gripping tannins and a bitter chocolate finish. Needs 2–3 years.” 89 pts, Tony Aspler
