Barolo La Rocca e la Pira Riserva 1997

Varietal: Nebbiolo
Maturation: 5 - 10 years in medium-sized French oak casks. Then at least 2 years in bottle.
Suggested food: Matched with red meat, ripe cheese and pasta.
Best drinking: 2007 - 2017
Tasting notes / Review: Garnet-red colour. Rich nose with a clear aroma, ethereal smell of tobacco, spices and white flowers with a great-evolving bouquet.
"The 1997 Barolo Riserva La Rocca e La Pira is loaded with ripe dark fruit, leather, tobacco, cedar and spice nuances. It offers outstanding length as well as balance in a style that captures the sweet, seductive style of the vintage. Although it retains good freshness for its age I wonder if a shorter stay in oak might have been beneficial in this hot vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2017." 90 pts, Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate.
