Brunello di Montalcino 2005

Brunello di Montalcino 2005

Varietal: 100% Sangiovese

Alcohol: 13.9%

Maturation: Matured for 36 months in oak barrels, estate bottled

Review: “Just 15,000 bottles on average are made per year. This spends 4 years in large botti and one year in bottle before release. There are some vanillins on the nose, but it’s open and very savoury, with red and black cherry, dried herbs and fresh earth. The palate is firm with dusty tannins and juicy acidity, but overall it’s made in an elegant mold with plenty of elegance and finesse . Give this a serious decantation for air. Classy wine. Tasted April 2010.” (John Szabo, Master Sommelier, Wine Align)

Score: 92

“Sesti’s 2005 Brunello di Montalcino is a tightly wound, focused offering imbued with scorched earth, smoke, licorice and red cherries, all of which flow from an authoritative, powerful frame. It remains one of the firmer wines of the vintage, but there is a lot to like. Suggestions of smoke and tar reappear on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.”  (Antonio Galloni, erobertparker.com April, 2010)
