The Prime Donne Project - The first important red wine for ladies. Donatella Cinelli Colombini, producer of this wine is a “Prima Donna”, as are Maureen Ashley the English Master of Wine, the Italo-German expert Astrid Schwarz, one of the best Italian sommeliers Daniela Scrobogna and the Italo-American P.R. Marina Thompson, by means of tasting and by following the wine during tis evolution in barrel. Basically “prime donne” are all women who love great wines and know how to make the most of them.
The “Prime Donne” project started in 1998 at the Casato, a property of 40 hectares of which 18 are Sangiovese “Brunello” vineyards. The winery called “Casato Prime Donne” is the first in Italy to have an all female staff: indeed the promotion and public relations cellar staff, as well as the tasters are all women.
Reviews: “Delivers intense aromas and flavors of ripe berry, with floral, graphite and clean oak notes. Medium- to full-bodied, with clean fruit and mineral flavors, fine tannins and a long, fresh finish. Best after 2009. 1,300 cases made. –JS” 90 pts
“A seductive Brunello with gorgeous aromas of crushed berries and dark flowers, saddle leather and cedar box with earth tones and iodine. The aromas follow- through on the palate - it’s rustic, with prominent acidity, cedar box spice and cherry flavours. The tannins are fine but mouth-filling. This wine has a lot of life left in it yet.” *****(Five stars), (VINES Magazine, May/June 2009.)
