Marcel Deiss
Alsace (Haut-Rhin)
Burg 2004
Certified Organic (ECOCERT) and Certified Biodynamic (Demeter)
Varietals: All Alsacian grapes (13 in total)
Soil type: From the Burg Terroir, a premier cru from their Bergheim vineyard, whose geology (mixed Keuper marls with rare calcareous intercalations) and climate (full southern exposure, protected location in the rear of the valley) make it possible to produce, year after year, a great, heady, complex and well-structured wine that keeps very well.
Tasting notes: Great rich white wine, mineral, complex and spicy. The sumptuous golden robe, the concentrated nose, with the very particular spices of marl of Keuper (cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg) and that very skilful movement between the almost metric rigour of wet earth and the frenetic blooming of an excessively juicy fruit. Burg combines its dark side and its bright side like all great wines that can be kept till they mature into a final harmony. It may be served immediately – providing it is decanted.
