Château Gilette

Bordeaux (Preignac)

1983 Crème-de-Tête

1983 Crème-de-Tête

Varietals: 90% Sémillon, 8% Sauvignon and 2% Muscadelle

Soil type: Gravel and sand

Maturation: 18 years on concrete vat

Alcohol: 14.5%

Best drinking: Now - 2035

Suggested food: Indian cooking, poultry and fruit, blue cheese and fruit desserts.

Tasting notes: Beautiful gold colour. Pineapple and orange scented traduce a high level of Botrytis. In the mouth the wine is opulent, full bodied with intense aromas of citrus, apricot, honey and spices, with enough acidity to provide great balance. The wine is impressive by its length and its exceptional aromatic complexity.

Orange, more deeply coloured than the 1982; rich, orange peel, toffee, coconut and sweet grapefruit nose; perfect balance with great length; lots of Botrytis flavours here but still very fresh - 5 Stars, Tony Aspler, Mar 25, 08.

Christian Medeville, Julie’s father, rejects modern marketing methods, preferring instead to keep his precious nectar made from Semillon, Sauvignon & Muscadelle in vats under anaerobic conditions for an amazing 20 years before bottling and selling it.  The Crème de Tête is First Growth quality with a powerful bouquet and intense flavour of liquorice and peaches and cream, following by a long barley-sugar aftertaste.” - Tom Stevenson, The New Sotheby’s Wine
