Dardo Sangiovese 2009

Dardo Sangiovese 2009

Varietals: 85% Sangiovese, 10% Syrah and 5% Merlot

Alcohol: 14%

The Sangiovese fruit is sourced from Valdarno in Central Tuscany, while the Merlot and Syrah (14.6% alcohol, very ripe and concentrated) were picked in Cortona. Fermented separately in stainless steel, then blended together. Bottled in screw cap for maximum freshness and ease of opening.

Tasting notes:  Youthful, clear, translucent light ruby core to a light garnet rim.  On the nose, the wine shows forward, sweet red berry notes of very pretty strawberry & cherry jam.  In the background, one can detect some faint floral notes of lavender and violets, as well as smoke, new leather and beef carpaccio.  On the palate, the wine is dry, medium bodied, with balanced acid and alcohol. Black cherry and candied red licorice envelope the palate, as do wet leaves and cigar smoke.  The tannins are light, ripe and sweet, but have enough grip to keep it interesting.  The medium length finish shows notes of lingering candied cherry and fresh acidity.
