Friuli (Collio)
Friulano Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC 2009

Formerly known as Tocai Friulano, it’s Friuli’s traditional wine with lots of personality and typicity. Well-structured, with harmonious, fruit-led complexity, the palate signs off with a characteristic after-aroma of bitter almonds.
Hand harvested in the last ten days of September, the grapes are carefully de-stemmed and left to macerate for a short period. Next, the fruit is soft crushed. The must obtained is then allowed to settle. The must ferments in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the wine settles on the lees in the stainless steel containers for six months. The bottled wine is aged in temperature-controlled binning cellars for a minimum of two months.
Varietal: Fruilano
Soil type: Marl and sandstone flysch of Eocene origin
Tasting notes / Review: In the appearance, intense canary yellow with greenish hues. On the nose, notes of spearmint, citrus peel, star fruit, golden apple, elderberry flower, almond, walnut and hints of orange blossom, white peach, sage, time, wisteria and white pepper. On the palate, balanced, elegant, slightly salty with nice acidity and harmonious fruit and mineral notes; typical bitter almond aftertaste integrated in a pleasant grassy sensation that extends the tastes.
"8 hours cold maceration prior to fermentation. Really intense, pronounced lightly candied/caramel apple, lemon essential oil honeydew melon; in short, classic Friulano nose from a classic vintage. The palate is rich, full, but relatively crisp at the same time, nicely balanced all around. Very nice." 90 pts John Szabo , MS
