Schiopetto
Friuli (Collio)
Friulano Collio DOC 2008

Varietal: 100% Friulano
Soil type: Predominantly marl soil from the Eocene period. Vines planted in 1968.
Alcohol: 13.5%
Tasting notes: Lemon-yellow, with greenish reflexes in the colour. On the nose, delicate and refreshing, pleasant and with typical aromas of almonds, meadow flowers with hints of pears and red apples. On the palate, dry, but also aromatic, medium body with a significant aromatic background. Almonds and pears appear in the final, especially when aged.
Reviews: ”... At last the cellar has returned to its former glory. After an understandable period of bewilderment following the death of that great winemaker, Mario Schipetto, his children have taken the winery back to the elevated status that it habitually earned in the past. Maria Angela is in charge of administration, Carlo looks after sales and twin Giorgio has always been a passionate worker in vineyard and cellar. Together, they have inherited the legacy, and image, that Mario left. Marco Simonit in the vineyards and Donato Lanati in the cellar provide superior consultancy input ... Elegance is the trait d’union of Schiopetto wines ...” (Gambero Rosso Italian Wines 2008)
“Peach pie, cream and toasted biscuit notes lead to a full body, with lots of ripe fruit that turns to dried peach, apple and mango. Very intense and rich. Drink now. 3,790 cases made.” 90 pts (Wine Spectator) “Offers outstanding balance in a ripe, full bodied style with hints of almost-tropical fruit, mint and flowers. This is a decidedly fat, opulent Friulano. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2013.” 90 pts (Wine Advocate)
