Gewurztraminer Bergheim 2004

Gewurztraminer Bergheim 2004

Certified Organic (ECOCERT) and Certified Biodynamic (Demeter)

Varietal:  Gewurztraminer

Soil type:  A spare clayey-calcareous soil that is red (ferrous) and rich in limestone rock. Here, the vine has to send its roots deep for energy.

Best drinking:  2008 - 2017

Tasting notes / Review:  Very fine wine, with notes of flowers, citrus fruits and exotic fruits. The sharp attacks denote an astonishing fresh and aromatic palate of crystallized fruit and preserve a beautiful freshness, characteristic of Bergheim’s calcareous soil. This great wine can be drunk by itself or associated with an aperitif, on strong cheeses, on fried foie gras with soft spices, on a Tajine of lamb with pine nuts, on a veal filet with prunes and on all Thaï dishes.

"From his home town – which Deiss calls “the capital of Gewurztraminer” – the 2004 Gewurztraminer Bergheim displays abundant rose petal, brown spices, smoked meat, peppermint, black tea, and peach preserves in the nose, a cocoa powder richness and glycerin-rich texture in the mouth, and a long, elegant, buoyant, subtly sweet, and intriguingly-complex finish featuring high-toned herbal essences, rose, tea and spice. Enjoy this beauty anytime over the next 7-9 years." 92 pts, erobertparker.com
