Oppidum Rosso Marche IGT 2002

Varietal: Montepulciano
Soil type: Medium mixture with clay
Alcohol: 14.5%
Maturation: 30% of the wine in large wooden barrels and 70% in small wooden barrels for 12 months
Tasting notes / Reviews: Quite opaque, with a dark crimson core to a dense, deep ruby rim. High intensity on the nose, showing almost jammy, ultra ripe black cherry, dates and kirsch. Complex layers of black licorice, mint and smoke are intertwined with more savoury notes of tomato paste, black olive tapenade and dry tobacco leaf. The palate is full and lush, with sweet, ripe cherry, spearmint and coffee. Tannins are also rich and full, caressing the mid-palate and drying on the finish. The finish is long, with bitter chocolate and kirsch notes leaving you wanting more.
