Riesling Ölberg Grosses Gewächs 2007

Varietal: Riesling

Soil type: Red slate

Tasting note / Review: This wine is perfectly balanced between the elegant aromas of ripe fruits and the spicy aromas of the red slate. With its hint of discreet botrytis the Ölberg Riesling is extremely dense and plays with the aromas of sweet pineapples and the tobacco-like earthiness. These contradictory components are finely woven and result in a long and strong finish.

“Delicate but intense, ultra mineral, lemon balm aromas: this has concentration in the extreme. The palate is lush, richly extracted, quite viscous, intense and flavourful - waves of flavours wash over the tongue while a vibrant backbone of acidity tightens the finish. Seems as though there were a touch of botrytis to generate such an intensely glycerous texture. Long, long finish. An over-the-tip, world class wine.” 95 pts John Szabo, MS
