Livio Felluga
Friuli (Collio)
Sossó Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC 1994

100% Merlot. This wine was made with the most carefully selected, oldest vines of Merlot, and is the result of skilful vinification and barrique maturation that lasts for 18 months. Hand harvested in late September, the grapes are carefully destemmed and the fruit are then crushed. Fermentation is carried out with maceration in temperature controlled stainless steel containers and in oak casks. The juice is pumped over the cap frequently for about three weeks, in order to extract colour and aroma compounds from the skins.
Varietal: Merlot
Soil type: Marl and sandstone flysch of Eocene origin
Tasting notes: Loads of sediment, deep garnet, medium intensity on the nose. Notes of spearmint, tobacco leaf, plum, sweet strawberry, mineral, flowers. Medium+ body, with balanced alcohol and acidity. Sweet cherry, caramel popcorn, plummy raspberry, medium tannins that melt and are seamlessly integrated into a long finish, with coffee and candied watermelon notes lingering on the finish. Enjoy now, and drink over the next 3-5 years.
Cellared at the winery for the last sixteen years, ready to drink now, and over the next 3-5 years. It’s definately a mature wine, but I think it still has some time. I think the wine is gorgeous.
