The Peju Zinfandel was harvested September, 2006 from sustainably farmed Persephone Vineyard, home to 120 acres planted on rolling hills just east of Howell Mountain. The 100% Estate wine was aged in American Oak barrels for 16 months using 25% new Oak; the balance of the cooperage between 1 and 4-year-old barrels. 95% Zinfandel 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Tasting note: Dark magenta and garnet in color. On the nose, floral notes with ripe cassis and bright blackberry jam. The pallet yields hints of rose petal, rhubarb pie, leather and vanilla that give way to a round, spicy mouthfeel. A backbone of big, bold tannins give this wine a long, silky finish.
