Mirco Mariotti

Mirco Mariotti

Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Mirco Mariotti makes natural wines in the Bosco Eliceo area in the eastern part of Emilia-Romagna. The vines grow 300 meters from the Adriatic sea and many are well over 100 years old. They are gnarly non-grafted vines with roots that dig as deep as two meters in the sandy soil and into the aquifer below. Mariotti’s wines are named after local card games the locals play.

The family winery story began in 1976 when Giorgio Mariotti established a wine analysis and consultation laboratory called 'La Bottega del Vino'. Through his work, he became aware of the uniqueness of the wines produced on the local sandy soils of the ungrafted vineyards of Bosco Eliceo (Eliceo forest), and he was also one of the promoters of the DOC Emilia-Romagna, obtained in 1989.

In 2009, Giorgio’s daughter, Barbara, and his son Mirco, who studied Enology at the University of the Sacred Heart in Piacenza, took over operations. Their focus is on local wines according to the Emilian tradition, paying particular attention to the ancestral method.
