NEW LCBO Releases for July
The sun is shining, and we have three fresh, crisp, oceanic wines released at the LCBO this month. We're excited to share the wines of Santorini's Artemis Karamolegos (vineyards above), as well as Nova Scotia's Blomidon Winery.
Read below for details, along with link to purchase.
Artemis Karamolegos Terra Nera White 2024
Artemis Karamolegos is one of the most dynamic wineries on the unique island of Santorini. Led by his grandfather, who started making wine and cultivating vines as a hobby in the 1950s, Artemis founded the winery in 2004. They own just over 3ha of vineyards (some over 100 years old) across Pyrgos, Megalorchori, Exo Gonia, Akrotiri and Fira, and have long term contracts to farm another 5 hectares. This 'entry level' Assyrtiko and Aidani comes from relatively young vines, averaging only 50 years, from lower altitude vineyards. It was fermented and aged in stainless, on lees, for 6 months. Crystalline lemon, quince, green apple, pink grapefruit flood the bright, medium-bodied white, with nice grippy saline-swept tension. Smart, friendly, charming marine white.

Artemis Karamolegos Terra Nera Red 2024
This 'entry level' red comes from older Mandilaria and Mavrotragano (60 years average) vines, with a short maceration prior to ferment in stainless for 9 months, with a small proportion seeing time in oak. Soft and fragrant with wild plum, cherry, raspberry across a shorter, stony, lactic palate, finishing with a dusting of spices and salinity. A lighter hued, lighter bodied red, ready for cracking now.

Blomidon Tidal Bay 2024
Tidal Bay is a style appellation for the signature white wine of Nova Scotia, defined by moderate alcohol, crisp acidity, and fresh saline minerality. The 2024 blends L'Acadie Blanc, Seyval Blanc, and New York Muscat.
"This is a squeaky clean, bright, beautifully balanced Tidal Bay - the unique Nova Scotia designation that only permits NS grapes in the blend, and that the wine cannot exceed 11%. This sits at 10% using mainstay L'Acadie Blanc with seyval blanc and New York Muscat, the latter projecting the lifted floral and grapefruit aromas. The nose also shows green apple, lime and spearmint. It dances and tingles with great acidity balanced perfectly by some sweetness. Very well made, with very good length. Chill well. Tasted July 2025." 91 points, David Lawrason, WineAlign
"Blomidon’s Tidal Bay is a blend of l'Acadie blanc, seyval blanc and (New York) muscat. Uniquely Nova Scotian, true to signature white wine appellation for the province, established in 2012. Tidy, tart and blessed with some of Canada’s finest acidity as it pertains to wine. Not to mention a mouthful of juicy flavours, not unlike what you may already recognize, as if this were made with sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and riesling. It all works, the alcohol is 10 percent and in fact the varieties here are so befitting Tidal Bay. Get to the dock and share a bottle midday. Good times will follow. Drink 2025-2027. Tasted July 2025." 91 points, Michael Godel, WineAlign
