Vermouth di Sardegna Rosso
This non-fortified Vermouth is made with a base of 2006 Vernaccia di Oristano Riserva aged for 12 years in small, 90 year old Sardinian chestnut barrels. It is infused with a blend of forged Sardinian herbs, including elicriso, Desoleana sage, myrtle leaf, thyme, lentisk (mastic) & artemisia.
Its aroma is a complex array of herbs like rosemary, bay leaf, and pine resins with a layer of honeyed walnut and apricot kernel with hints of a saline sea breeze. Intense, soft and round, this carries layered flavours of herbs and ripe honeyed stone fruit, with a lengthy and nutty finish. Enjoy as an aperitif over ice with a slice of orange, or use it in a Negroni or Americano.

Domaine Rolet
Crémant du Jura Blanc Brut
During his presidency of the Société de viticulture du Jura, Pierre Rolet was instrumental in the creation of the AOC Crémant du Jura in 1995.
The current NV Crémant du Jura Blanc Brut is from 2020, fermented in stainless with no MLF, and spends at least 2 years sur lattes before disgorged (date noted on the case) with 4 g/L. Based on chardonnay (50%), with savagnin, trousseau, poulsard, and pinot noir filling out the rest. This comes off estate vineyards in Arbois, Passenas, and Le Vernnois. Crisp green apple, bright lemon, fresh almond is kissed with meringue on the brisk, shining palate finishing with a slick of salinity. Quite lively at present, and a lovely evolution of style for the house.

In Greve, in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, the winery has 14 hectares, 10 of which are devoted to vineyards sitting on shale soils at approximately 300 meters. This organically farmed Sangiovese is splashed with 10% of other local grapes, and fermented in stainless before resting in concrete. Dried and fresh cherry, perfumed raspberry is scented with dried florals, and framed with finely grippy tannins through the bitter edged finish. Nice freshness throughout.

Crémant du Jura Blanc de Blancs Coeur de Chardonnay
During his presidency of the Société de viticulture du Jura, Pierre Rolet was instrumental in the creation of the AOC Crémant du Jura in 1995. The Coeur de Chardonnay is a selection of the winery's best sparkling lots from Arbois and Côtes du Jura. The wine was whole cluster pressed and fermented at low temperature (18°C) in stainless, with no MLF, and spent a minimum of 40 months on lees, with a dosage of 4 g/L. Green apple, lemon brioche, and fresh bread dough is studded with flake salts, and lingering with shining lemon pith and peel. Quite complete, and super smart, drinking well now and with time ahead.

Grüner Veltliner Kamptal
Carrying on his family's winemaking tradition, after studying oenology at Austria’s Klosterneuburg University and working in Germany and Napa, Fred Loimer took over the winery from his father in 1997. His 80 hectares of vineyards began conversion to biodynamics in 2006, and all are certified today. Unlike most of his peers, Fred vinifies his wine to dryness, like this concentrated, stony, older vine grüner from vineyard around Langenlois, growing on loess and gneiss soils at 200-400m. Predominantly fermented and aged in large stainless tanks (5% in large oak barrels), this rested 4 months on lees before blending and bottling.
Juicy pink grapefruit, lime zest, honeycrisp apple floods the palate, dusted with white pepper, and finishing with a grapefruit twist. A friendly, smart white and excellent introduction to Kamptal and Loimer. *New label this vintage.

Palpite Reserva
Palpite is Fitapreta's top wine that they make every year. This year's blends alicante bouschet, aragonez, castelão trincadeira, with 12% other indigenous varieties, all grown on Alentejo's yellow schists and granites and from vines 20-50 years. After a native ferment this aged 18 months in French oak prior to bottling.
Full bodied and muscular, with chewy cassis, dusky black plums, pipe tobacco working through the fleshy palate. Acidity is tart, and tannins are ample and dense, framing this through the peppery finish. One for grilled steaks now, or to settle for a couple of years.

Suertes del Marqués
Suertes del Marqués
7 Fuentes
100+ year old ungrafted and organic listan negro is splashed with 10% castellana negra in this singular wine, showcasing Tenerife's volcanic soils and vineyard altitude up to 750m. Suertes del Marqués considers this their 'village wine', and an introduction to their range, sourcing grapes from 30 different vineyards. After a native ferment in concrete (20% whole clusters) this rested 11 months in concrete and neutral French oak, before an 8 month stint in stainless.
Unlike older vintages of 7 Fuentes, this barely opens with any reduction at all, but rather fragrant cherry, wild raspberry, scrubby resinous herbs, and ample cracked peppercorn, all laced and lofted with pink grapefruit acidity. Tannins are fine and sticky, taking this marine red to a lingering saline finish. Super smart, and great energy.
“The 2021 7 Fuentes was quite similar to the 2020 that I tasted next to it, but this year they merged the 7 Fuentes and 7 Fuentes El Lance into a single cuvée of Listán Negro and 5% Castellana Negra, so it has grapes from more vineyards, 30 different ones. It fermented with 20% full clusters in concrete with indigenous yeasts and matured for 11 months, 50% in concrete and 50% in used 500-liter oak barrels; then it was blended and kept in stainless steel for a further eight months. It has 12.63% alcohol and good acidity and freshness. This is quite approachable and less reductive and at the same time fresher. They have been working to increase the pH of the soil to get less reduction in the wines; each year as the soils are healthier, there is less reduction in the wines. 50,400 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023.” - 93+ points, Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

The lemons for Carta Limonello (purposely missing the 'C') are grown in the organic garden on the Carta estate. They are picked by hand early in the morning, washed and then infused with alcohol over a period of 20-30 days. The liqueur shows powerful ripe lemon fruit, lemon oil and lemon blossoms across the juicy palate, easily braced with bright acidity and a fresh finish. Silvio Carta uses 1.1kg of WHOLE organic lemons per litre of alcohol to make this very special liqueur. Morgon
Thibault Ducroux grew up in a winemaking family in Bojo but was inspired towards natural wines through reading Jules Chauvet. After working with some natural winemakers in Bojo and Jura, he began his winery with 1.25ha owned vines and 6.5ha total via long-term contracts, all organically farmed and in conversion. This Morgon comes from 2 vineyards he has contracts with, one in Les Charmes (40-year-old vines) and one in Corcelette (50-year-old vines) on granite and schist. After a whole bunch of carbo, this was native fermented and aged in concrete for eight months, bottled without fining filtration, and with minimal sulphur.
Wild plums, wild blueberries pulse through the textured palate, grippy via the schistous soils and fine, long tannins. The finish lingers with crushed florals, pink peppercorn, and salinity. An honest and pure look at the Cru.

This was the wine he made, in 2019, and called En Roue Libre, 'Freewheeling,' referencing his non-intervention winemaking and his love of cycling (he used to race in a club). From 40 year old vines in silty clays, this was whole bunch of carbo, native ferment, and aged in concrete for eight months with no fining, filtration and the bare minimum of sulphur at bottling. Perfumed raspberry, cherry blossoms is kissed with scrubby rosemary, and hugged with lightly grippy / sticky tannins, guiding this to a pink peppercorn rasped finish. Fun and fresh.

Dinâmica D.N.M.C. Baga
This biodynamic Baga is sourced partially from Filipa and William’s estate vineyards in Ois do Bairro, and partially from other limestone soiled growers in various villages in Bairrada. There’s a mix of bush vines and trellised plants with an average age of 40 years. The younger vines have been propagated by massale selection from the old vines in an effort to maintain diversity and select the best plant material available. Handpicked, this is partial whole cluster and fermented and raised entirely in tank with a very gentle extraction and long (4 week) maceration, adding the fine, firm structure here.
Perfumed wild plum, tayberry is scented with fragrant scrubby herbs and wildflowers, and boned with long, lithe tannins along the slender frame. The finish is long and saline, adding to the purity and finesse of this lighter red. A real charmer.

Erupção Vulcânica
From the 2019 vintage (local laws don’t allow the vintage to be on the label for this rogue wine), this blends Malvarisco, Bastardo, Rufete, Saborinho, Agronómica, Aragonês, Castelão, Touriga Nacional, and others from the volcanic soils of Pico. This was 30% whole cluster, and native fermented for 1 month on skins before aging in a split of stainless and barrels for 30 months.
Pouring a pale red, this lighter (11%) red teems with tart raspberry, baked rhubarb, wild strawberry, woven with a line of reduction, and lined with negligible tannins. Mouthwatering from first whiff, this juicy, bright, marine red finishes with a sprinkle of star anise and pink pepper. Quite characterful, and another inspired creation from António Maçanita. 6,666 bottles produced.
"The new NV Erupção Vulcânica was produced with grapes found in the old vines: Malvarisco, Bastardo, Rufete, Saborinho, Agronómica, Aragonês, Castelão, Touriga Nacional, etc. They've planted Malvarisco, Bastardo, Rufete and Saborinho, but they have very little, so they have to mix different vintages to achieve some volume. This is a blend of 2018, 2019 and 2021 that spent a few months in barrel before being kept in stainless steel. It is a pale, bright red, with red berry aromas and a medium-bodied palate with moderate alcohol of 11% and very good acidity. It's light and fresh, easy to drink. 6,666 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2023. Drink Date: 2024-2028.” - 91 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, August 22, 2024

Born into a family of vignerons, Valentin Montaney sources grapes from across Bourgogne and Beaujolais for his negociant La Soeur Cadette wines. Valentin wanted to highlight the lesser-seen Juliénas cru in this bright and joyous red. This blends two sites, one on blue granite and one on sandy soils, with vines averaging 80 years. Vertente
Vertente means aspect or hillside, well named for the vineyards of the Douro. 50 to 80 year old vines are sourced from all of the vineyards Dirk works with, with a traditional blend of several grape varieties predominantly based on Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Rufete, and Tinta Amarela. After a native ferment in stainless, this was aged in French oak for 22 months.
Fragrant rockrose, scrubby herbs, wild blackberries, and black plum flood a juicy palate, with a fine, schistous, structural brace of tannins that guide this 13% red to a lingering stony finish. Still so much energy in this wine, and time ahead.
“This has a very pure, detailed nose of red fruit and dried flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with restrained fruit flavors and soft and silky yet grainy tannins. Very balanced and harmonious, with a lovely fruit expression. A blend of different varieties. Drink or hold.” - 94 points, Jacobo Garcia-Andrade Llamas, JamesSuckling.com

This youthful white may show a Canadian-themed comic on the label, but make no mistake, this is a serious wine, from one of the world's top winemakers, Dirk Niepoort. From schistous, mica-flecked vineyards on the right bank of the Douro, between 550-700m, this blend of indigenous Portuguese white grapes is native fermented in a split between stainless and older French barriques (30 percent), with no MLF, and remains there for eight months.
The blend is 20-50 year old Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Gouveio, Dona Branca, Viosinho, Bical and others. This year's edition is quite reductive up front, with an earthy, leesy, stony underlay bedding green apple, lemon, green fig, white blossoms, finishing with a lingering salinity.

After the berries were popped and native fermented in stainless, they rested in French barrel over 1 year prior to bottling.

A Proibida Rosé
The proibida (prohibition) of this wine necessitating the pink line crossing out words here because this is an old vine/vineyard blend of Isabella, a hybrid grape that is not allowed for quality wine in the EU, and certainly looked down upon in the Azores and Portugal. However, winemaker Antonio Maçanita wanted to pay tribute to these old Isabella vines, once in abundance and with 200 years history on this volcanic island, before phylloxera ravaged through. From vineyards close to the sea, protected from the strong salty ocean winds by walls of rock known as currais, the slightly pressed grapes saw 3-6 hours of skin time before a native ferment and short rest in stainless.
Watermelon candy, pear blossoms are lifted with rhubarb acidity, sailing this to a sour crunchy plum finish. Salinity is rinsed throughout, leaving this light (11.5%) pink fresh and clean and ready for food pairings (think tapas).

Pinot Noir Réserve
Château Haut-Blanville is a family-owned Languedoc wine estate that was founded in 1997 by Béatrice & Bernard Nivollet. Their 70 ha of vineyards extend across The Grés de Montpellier AOP, stretching from the Hérault middle valley to the Vidourle, and from the Mediterranean in the south to the Pic Saint-Loup in the north. Wines are produced naturally, without the use of any additions except a minimal amount of sulphur upon bottling. This pinot noir comes from the limestone and basalt soils of Pézenas at 100-150m, on a cool, north-facing single vineyard.
Fragrant blackberry, plump plum flood a juicy palate, with perfumed baking spices to season, and fine, supple tannins to frame. There's an alluring stony underlay here, reflective of the profound soils of Pézenas. Great value.

Rosé de Blancs 1er Cru Brut
Didier, part of the third generation of the Gimonnet family, oversees the winemaking of their family winery, based in Cuis, in the heart of the Côtes de Blancs. This wine, like all of their chardonnay-centric wines, is laser focused. According to Didier, he wants a rosé that tastes like a blanc de blancs with colour. "Powerful chardonnay." It certainly succeeds. My bottle was from 2021 vintage (no reserves) and sources fruit from Chouilly, Cramant, Oger, Cuis, and Vertus, adding 7% Bouzy still pinot noir. It was disgorged in February 2023, with 5.5 g/L. Singing with blood orange, pink grapefruit, subtle crushed florals, and Rainier cherry across a brisk, green apple and bright lemon core, this streaks like an arrow through a chalky finish. Beautiful energy here in this supremely food-friendly wine.
"Balanced and minerally, with the crisp, lacy mousse carrying delicate notes of white cherry, pink grapefruit pith, blanched almond and fleur de sel. Refreshing. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Disgorged July 2023. Drink now.” - 91 points, Wine Spectator

Champagne Pierre Gimonnet et Fils
Champagne Pierre Gimonnet et Fils
Cuis 1er Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs
Understated and classic, this 1er Cru always impresses with its cut and precision. Didier, the third generation of the Gimonnet vine growing family, oversees the winemaking of this Côtes des Blancs grower champagne house based in Cuis, with 30 HA owned. Like all of their chardonnay-centric wines, Cuis, the signature of the domaine, is crystalline and bright, driving through to the lingering finish. Based on 2021, this has 30% reserves from 6 previous vintages, uniquely stored in 750mL bottles. The base was fermented in stainless, with full MLF, and this bottle was disgorged in April 2023 with 6-ish g/L.
"There's a subtle succulence to this graceful Champagne, framing flavors of peach skin, ripe pear, Marcona almond and orchard blossoms. The fine, detailed mousse is raw silk–like in texture. Finishes with minerally fleur de sel and oyster shell notes. Disgorged December 2023. Drink now through 2029.” - 93 points, Wine Spectator, November 30, 2024

Cantine Madonna della Grazie
Cantine Madonna della Grazie
Leucònoe Bianco
Cantine Madonna della Grazie is a small organic winery in Venosa, in the heart of Vulture. This is a special white made of the red grape Aglianico, from Montalbo vineyard. After whole bunch pressing and racking, this was fermented long and cool on fine lees.
This does not lack for acidity, with a racy streak of lemon lightning across the palate, leaving subtle lees, white grapefruit, lemon blossom, and crushed stones in its wake. A geek-worthy wine to be sure.

Special Club Cuis 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs
Didier, the third generation of the Gimonnet vine growing family, oversees the winemaking of this Côtes des Blancs grower champagne house based in Cuis, with 30 HA owned. In 2018, Didier Gimonnet had enough wine in excess to try a single Special Club Cuis, without disturbing the integrity of his flagship 1er cru bottling. This comes from two older plots, and was fermented in stainless with full MLF. It was disgorged in June 2023. Powerful and savoury, woven with perfumed lemon pith and peel, and a medicinal herbal vein throughout. Structural and powerful, yet graceful and finessed, gripped with chalk which lingers on the finish. Such a beauty. Though a proper Special Club, due to glass shortages they were unable to use the traditional and marked Special Club bottle, so they were given dispensation to use a different bottle for this vintage.
"Vivid acidity creates a mouthwatering frame for flavors of Honeycrisp apple and nectarine, with pickled ginger, chamomile and blanched almond accents. Lacy in texture, this shows focus and length in a finely balanced, bright and graceful package. Disgorged June 2023. Drink now through 2035. 621 cases made.” - 94 points, Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator
"A youthful and very minerally Blanc de Blancs with excellent drive and purity. Lovely white flower and lemon zest notes emerge. Long and very focused. A cuvee of 85% from the Croix Blanche and 15% from Les Roualles. Bottled on the 9th May 2019 and disgorged in April 2023. Drink or hold." - 94 points, Stuart Pigott, JamesSuckling.com

Tenuta Fanti
Extra Virgin Olive Oil

This oil blends Correggiolo, Leccino and Olivastra, from 15-200 year old trees resting from 200-450m. These were crushed within 24 hours of harvest, and extracted cool.
Opalescent green in hue in youth, this tends to yellow with ageing. At present, this is intensely fruity with green tones across a lightly spicy palate.

Tenuta Fanti
Tenuta Fanti
Brunello di Montalcino
The Tenuta Fanti estate has belonged to the Fanti family since the beginning of the eighteenth century. It extends across 300 hectares in Toscana, 52 hectares of which are specialized certified sustainable vineyards, 110 hectares are olive orchards, 80 hectares are used for seed plots, and 70 hectares are forests. Made from 20-30 year old vines, this Brunello fermented over 25 days in stainless before aging 28 months a mix of French oak barrels and 3,000L Slavonian oak vats. The wine then aged in bottle for one year prior to release.
"Filigree complexity here with a multilayered profile, including balsamic tones, not so obvious red cherries and dried fruit, licorice, light camphor and fresh violets. Full-bodied, energetic palate with firm, velvety tannins and a chalky finish. Crisp, integrated acidity. Rich and vibrant, despite some warmth. Best after 2026.” 94 points, James Suckling
