Chinon Blanc
Only 2% of Chinon is planted to white, so when you find a Chinon Blanc, you know you're in for a special Chenin Blanc experience. This organically farmed Chenin Blanc comes mostly from Ligré's chalky, limestone clay soils, and was native cool fermented in stainless, to preserve the bright, fresh, very special character of Chenin on limestone.
Juicy and lively, with orange blossom, crunchy pear, white peach, and crystalline lemon buzzing along the stony palate to a lemon twist. Super smart chenin, and great value.

Blanville Reserve Réserve
Blanville
Chardonnay Réserve
Château Haut-Blanville is a family-owned Languedoc wine estate that was founded in 1997 by Béatrice & Bernard Nivollet. Their 70 ha of vineyards extend across The Grés de Montpellier AOP, stretching from the Hérault middle valley to the Vidourle, and from the Mediterranean in the south to the Pic Saint-Loup in the north. Wines are produced naturally, without the use of any additions except a minimal amount of sulphur upon bottling. From stony clay-limestone soils, this Chardonnay blends in 5% Roussanne for additional fragrance and body. The Chardonnay is fermented in stainless steel and does not undergo MLF, whereas the Roussanne is barrel fermented with full MLF.
White peach, pear custard, pear skin, and white grapefruit fill the juicy, medium palate, with a lingering stony spice and bitter almond twist to close. Friendly and accessible now.

Merlettaie Pecorino
Merlettaie means lace, and the name of this wine pays homage to the lace workers of Offida, characteristic of these hills much like the Pecorino grape. From organic vineyards in Offida and Acquaviva Picena, at 280m, this was native fermented and aged in 25hL Slavonian oak barrels over a period of 8-10 weeks, where it remained for 6 months on lees prior to bottling.
Pouring a shining deeper lemon hue, this fuller white draws pine nuts, quince, and white peach blossoms along the creamy palate, seasoned with light toast, and lingering with grapefruit peel. As ever, nice detailing and weight here.

Dialogo Branco Diálogo
Niepoort Vinhos
Diálogo Branco
This youthful white may show a Canadian-themed comic on the label, but make no mistake, this is a serious wine, from one of the world's top winemakers, Dirk Niepoort. From schistous, mica-flecked vineyards on the right bank of the Douro, between 550-700m, this blend of indigenous Portuguese white grapes is native fermented in a split between stainless and older French barriques (30 percent), with no MLF, and remains there for eight months.
The blend is 20-50 year old Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Gouveio, Dona Branca, Viosinho, Bical and others. This year's edition is quite reductive up front, with an earthy, leesy, stony underlay bedding green apple, lemon, green fig, white blossoms, finishing with a lingering salinity.

Beaujolais En Roue Libre
Thibault Ducroux grew up in a winemaking family in Bojo but was inspired towards natural wines through reading Jules Chauvet. After working with some natural winemakers in Bojo and Jura, he began his winery with 1.25ha owned vines and 6.5ha total via long-term contracts, all organically farmed and in conversion. This was the wine he made, in 2019, and called En Roue Libre, 'Freewheeling,' referencing his non-intervention winemaking and his love of cycling (he used to race in a club). From 40 year old vines in silty clays, this was whole bunch of carbo, native ferment, and aged in concrete for eight months with no fining, filtration and the bare minimum of sulphur at bottling.
Perfumed raspberry, cherry blossoms is kissed with scrubby rosemary, and hugged with lightly grippy / sticky tannins, guiding this to a pink peppercorn rasped finish. Fun and fresh.

Cantine Madonna della Grazie is a small organic winery in Venosa, in the heart of Vulture. This is a special white made of the red grape Aglianico, from Montalbo vineyard. After whole bunch pressing and racking, this was fermented long and cool on fine lees.
This does not lack for acidity, with a racy streak of lemon lightning across the palate, leaving subtle lees, white grapefruit, lemon blossom, and crushed stones in its wake. A geek-worthy wine to be sure.

NAT’Cool! Tinto Bairrada
Dirk Niepoort's NAT'Cool! range of wines were created to meet certain criteria : be made as naturally as possible, be low alcohol, be terroir-driven, use native grapes to the region, be affordable, and be so smashable that it's only sold in 1L bottles. This lighter, shining red is 40-100 year old baga vines from the limestone laced, clay soils of Bairrada. This was native fermented and aged in stainless, to preserve the purity of fruit.
A lighter crimson hue, this charms with crushed florals, wild strawberry, raspberry, and scrubby herbs, with whisper fine tannins pinning in the sides, and an easy acidity buoying this through the stony finish. Smashable.

After working with some natural winemakers in Bojo and Jura, he began his winery with 1.25ha owned vines and 6.5ha total via long-term contracts, all organically farmed and in conversion. This Morgon comes from 2 vineyards he has contracts with, one in Les Charmes (40-year-old vines) and one in Corcelette (50-year-old vines) on granite and schist. After a whole bunch of carbo, this was native fermented and aged in concrete for eight months, bottled without fining filtration, and with minimal sulphur.
Wild plums, wild blueberries pulse through the textured palate, grippy via the schistous soils and fine, long tannins. The finish lingers with crushed florals, pink peppercorn, and salinity. An honest and pure look at the Cru.

Azores Wine Co. Rose Vulcanico Rosé
Azores Wine Co.
Rosé Vulcânico
This pale pink comes from Portugal's Pico Island, in the Azores archipelago, and its pure volcanic, black basaltic, scrabbly rocky soils. This blends 5-30+ year old saborinho, agronomica, aragones, touriga nacional and many other co-planted varieties across 13 vineyards, sustainably grown in wee plots (2 to 6 bush trained vines per square), planted in 1991 at sea level. This is a partial saignée from António Maçanita's Tinto Vulcanico, along with partial whole bunch, and including some cofermentation. Stainless steel preserves the crisp fruit, and no maceration created the pale peach hue. Two 5000L stainless barrels were lain on their sides to give more lees / wine contact and texture on the palate. Perfumed rose petal, wild strawberry, and spring raspberry leap across the palate, brisk with juicy pink grapefruit acidity, and lashed with marine salinity. Fresh, energetic, and friendly, this is a welcome choice this summer.

Barbaresco 2021
This spent 2 years in older wood, bottled without filtration, and spent 1 year in bottle prior to release.
Kirsch, balsam, and scrubby herbs light up the nose and carry through the medium bodied palate, woven with wild cherry, wild raspberry, plum, scrubby herbs and cracked white pepper. Tannins are ample and sticky, but well integrated into the fruit. Great energy and form now, and with time ahead. Give this time to open in the glass.
"The Cantina del Pino 2021 Barbaresco (with 12,000 bottles made) is perfumed and nuanced with pretty fruit tones of cassis and dried cherry and an equally important floral side with rose potpourri and iris root. The wine starts fermentation in both stainless steel and oak vats, and it matures in large oak casks for 24 months before going into bottle. It glides over the palate with polished tannins and a lean to mid-weight mouthfeel. I'd give this vintage a little more bottle age to allow it to flesh out further. Barbaresco 2020
This spent 2 years in older wood, bottled without filtration, and spent 1 year in bottle prior to release.
Alluring wild cherry, wildflowers, fine espresso, ferrous dust, and bergamot teem along the fuller palate, with long, finely grippy tannins framing to a medicinal kirsch scented finish. As with all their wines, ample freshness here, belying its 14.5% and the generous 2020 vintage. Drinking now, beautifully and amply.
"Elegant and precise, the Cantina del Pino 2020 Barbaresco brings lots of freshness and a charming view of young Nebbiolo fruit. This vintage tends to be more accessible overall, but you are nonetheless awarded with the subtle nuances and complexity that characterize this variety. There is tart cassis, violet and earthy licorice root. This is a 12,000-bottle release. Drink 2026-2039.” - 93 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jan 30, 2025

Château Penin
Château Penin
Clairet
This family business was founded in 1855 by Louis Carteyron and his son Jacques. In 2022, Antoine and his brother Etienne became the sixth generation to run the estate, which has grown to 50 sustainably farmed hectares. This lighter red blends 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc from grapes grown on a limestone plateau at the top of the village. After a short maceration over 24-48 hours, this was lightly pressed and slowly fermented at low temperature over 20 days, with MLF done on roughly 50% of the vats. It was then matured 4 months on fine lees before bottling. This used to be the wine for the family and was not commercialized until Jacques started to sell it in the 80s.
Pouring a light crimson hue, this is a slight, light red, with crushed wildflowers, wild raspberry, and finely lifted acidity framed with barely there tannins from the short maceration. The finish lingers with pink peppercorn. A charmer.

Cabernet Franc Massale Selection
This family business was founded in 1855 by Louis Carteyron and his son Jacques. In 2022, Antoine and his brother Etienne became the sixth generation to run the estate, which has grown to 50 sustainably farmed hectares. This red comes from two parcels on deep gravels and clay limestone soils, with vines from a massale selection collected from a century-old vineyard in Pomerol. These old vines carry the authentic genetics and perfumed aromas of Cabernet Franc that clones cannot. The wine was fermented at low temperature in stainless tanks over 15 days, and aged in concrete with limited racking to preserve fruitiness.
Perfumed violets, wild blueberries, juicy boysenberry is threaded with crushed stones and pink peppercorn, housed with fine, long, lightly grippy tannins. Light on its feet, but with structure to partner to roast pork or duck. A charmer.
“The 2019 Cabernet Franc Massale has a floral bouquet evoking aromas of violet, dark berries and smoke intertwined with a delicate reduction note. Medium to full-bodied, layered and tense, it’s juicy with a complete profile. A fine value, it’s well worth seeking out. Drink 2023-2030.” – 91 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Guettottes
Pascal Clément, well known for his exceptional white wines, loves using older foudre for his whites, as he feels it brings out the saltiness in the wine. Pascal employs MLF but never bâtonnage on his wines, leaving them on full lees in barrels after pressing.
From the hills of his organic estate vines in Savigny-les-Beaune, Les Guettottes is from 50 year old vines with eastern exposure, on very stony clay limestones. He harvests this vineyard last, because of its cooler location. This is threaded with flinty reduction, wrapping around green apple, crunchy mirabelle plum, subtle white blossoms, and crushed stones, with great energy to drive this through a long lingering saline finish. A finessed and lovely example of 2021's cut and energy, drinking now and with time ahead.

Azores Wine Co.
Azores Wine Co.
Isabella a Proibida
The proibida (prohibition) of this wine necessitating the red line crossing out words here because this is an old vine/vineyard blend of Isabella, a hybrid grape that is not allowed for quality wine in the EU, and certainly looked down upon in the Azores and Portugal. However, winemaker Antonio Maçanita wanted to pay tribute to these old Isabella vines, once in abundance and with 200 years history on this volcanic island, before phylloxera ravaged through. This was fermented and aged for a short time in stainless.
Foxy, green and hybrid herbaceous, this weaves early raspberry, crunchy cherry, mint, and thorns across a brisk, bright palate, lightly framed with sticky tannins through a saline finish. Certainly unique.
"The 2023 a Proibida was produced with Isabella grapes, a hybrid not allowed in some parts but allowed in others. It doesn't carry the vintage as such (it's not allowed) but has lot number LIPR3, which shows it's a wine from 2023 (Lot Isabella Proibida Rosé 2023). This used to be a red, but they changed it to a rosé. It has bright strawberry juice aromas, with a touch of caramel, typical of this hybrid grape. It has only 11% alcohol, high acidity, very good freshness and a bitter twist in the finish. It's dry, but there's a sweet-like feeling (bubble gum) on the palate. It's not a great wine, but it is quaffable and fun. 2,080 bottles were filled in January 2024. Drink Date: 2024-2027.” - 89 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, August 22, 2024

Dinâmica D.N.M.C. Baga
This biodynamic Baga is sourced partially from Filipa and William’s estate vineyards in Ois do Bairro, and partially from other limestone soiled growers in various villages in Bairrada. There’s a mix of bush vines and trellised plants with an average age of 40 years. The younger vines have been propagated by massale selection from the old vines in an effort to maintain diversity and select the best plant material available. Handpicked, this is partial whole cluster and fermented and raised entirely in tank with a very gentle extraction and long (4 week) maceration, adding the fine, firm structure here.
Perfumed plum, crushed purple florals, tayberry is scented with scrubby wild herbs and framed with fine, lithe tannins, taking this to a stony finish. Fantastic typicity in this gentle charmer.

Bodegas Hermanos Pecina Peciña
Bodegas Hermanos Peciña
Señorio de P. Peciña Tinto Cosecha
Bodegas Hermanos Peciña is firmly planted in traditional Rioja, one of perhaps a dozen of producers adhering to the tenets passed down through generations. This includes long aging in mostly neutral American oak, regular open-air racking by hand (called trasiego), and then further aging in bottle often well beyond the specifications required by the DO. Founder Pedro Peciña had over two decades of working in Rioja Alta before opening his own Bodega in 1992. This is a blend of 95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano, and 2% Garnacha, from Hermanos Pecina's youngest vineyards, La Veguilla and Valseca, which average 25 years in age. This was native fermented in stainless, where it aged for six months before bottling without fining or filtration.
Pouring a deep garnet hue, this is flush with red florals, downy plums, wild blackberries, thorns, and threads of balsamic. Brisk acidity works well against the tighter, fine tannins, guiding this to a lightly spiced wood finish. Drinking very well now, especially with lamb or roasted root veg. Great value.

Artemis Karamolegos
Artemis Karamolegos
Kouloura
Artemis Karamolegos is one of the most dynamic wineries on the unique island of Santorini. Led by his grandfather, who started making wine and cultivating vines as a hobby in the 1950s, Artemis founded the winery in 2004. They own just over 3ha of vineyards (some over 100 years old) across Pyrgos, Megalorchori, Exo Gonia, Akrotiri and Fira and have long-term contracts to farm another 5 hectares. This comes from vines averaging 80 years and blends 90% Assyrtiko and 10% blend of Athiri / Aidani. This was fermented and aged in stainless on lees for seven months.
Lemon, green apple, green fig, white grapefruit sails through the bright palate, lit with marine salinity. Lovely now, and with time ahead.
"The Artemis Karamolegos Winery 2024 Santorini Kouloura offers aromas of elderflower, chamomile, mountain herbs and candied lemon drop framed by a distinctly chalky mineral character reminiscent of a freshly erased classroom chalkboard. Made from 90% Assyrtiko with 10% Athiri and Aidani, the wine is fresh, linear and nicely focused. However, it is less complex than the estate's upper-tier bottlings and feels somewhat lean on the finish, showing less depth and persistence than its 14% alcohol might suggest. Produced in 14,000 bottles from old vines averaging 80 years of age, this is a straightforward and accessible introduction to the Karamolegos style. First released under the "Kouloura" name in 2023 and replacing the entry-level Santorini bottling, the wine takes its identity from the traditional basket-trained vines that have become one of Santorini's most enduring viticultural symbols. (It's a miracle the name wasn't already copyrighted.) Drink 2026-2029.” - 91 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, June 25, 2026

Led by his grandfather, who started making wine and cultivating vines as a hobby in the 1950s, Artemis founded the winery in 2004. They own just over 3ha of vineyards (some over 100 years old) across Pyrgos, Megalorchori, Exo Gonia, Akrotiri and Fira, and have long term contracts to farm another 5 hectares. This comes from very old assyrtiko vines (some of the oldest on the island), partially native fermented (10% in oak), where it remains for 8 months on lees.
Green veg, lemon verbena, white asparagus, lemon peel streaks across the palate, with ample buzzy stony underlay through the salty, marine finish. Electric. Drinking beautifully now, and with time ahead.
"The Artemis Karamolegos Winery 2024 Santorini Assyrtiko Ancestral Vines 34 shows a more accessible side of Assyrtiko without sacrificing the variety's essential structure. Aromas of pie crust, lemon cream and Chantilly lead to notes of apricot skin, nectarine and stony minerality. A subtle oily note on the finish adds texture and breadth, giving the wine a richer profile than many young Santorini Assyrtikos. Despite this extra weight, the palate remains fresh, angular and complex. The mineral character is more stone-driven than overtly saline, making this a particularly versatile food wine, especially with grilled shrimp and shellfish. Produced in 9,000 bottles from century-old vines rooted in Santorini's volcanic soils, the wine ages on its lees for 12 months. Fruit from five villages (Pyrgos, Megalochori, Exo Gonia, Akrotiri and Fira) is used in the blend. The number 34 references the 34 centuries of winemaking history on Santorini. Drink 2026-2032.” - 93 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, June 25, 2026

NAT’Cool! Branco
NAT’Cool is Dirk Niepoort's line of wines that are low-intervention, low-alcohol, available only in a 1L format, affordable, and highly smashable. This cloudy pét-nat ish Vinho Verde, comes from the sub-region of Lousada, and is a mix of Azal, Arinto, Avesso, Trajadura, and Loureiro, and vines 25-30 years. After beginning ferment in stainless, it was bottled with a few grams RS, so it could continue to percolate in the bottle, affording it a gentle spritz.
Lightly hazy straw hue, this streams meadow grass, green and yellow apple, gooseberry across the slight 11% palate, finishing with a grapefruit twist. Fun and fresh, as intended.

La Soeur Cadette Julienas
La Soeur Cadette
Juliénas
Born into a family of vignerons, Valentin Montaney sources grapes from across Bourgogne and Beaujolais for his negociant La Soeur Cadette wines. Valentin wanted to highlight the lesser-seen Juliénas cru in this bright and joyous red. This blends two sites, one on blue granite and one on sandy soils, with vines averaging 80 years. This was whole cluster fermented in concrete and then into older barrels for 8-10 months’ rest.
Perfumed plum, juicy raspberry floods a buoyant palate, with a fine buzzy granitic underlay. Tannins are long and fine, framing this fine boned wine through a scrubby herbal finish. Drinking beauty now. #GoGamayGo.

La Soeur Cadette
Montanet-Thoden Vézelay Galerne
Valentin Montanet is based in western Bourgogne's Vézelay, where he is the caretaker of his parents' 22ha of organically farmed vineyards. In 2016, Valentin began a négociant business, creating the La Soeur Cadette range. This Chardonnay comes from his mother's organically farmed vineyards, with a higher proportion of clay in the limestone-laden soils. It was native fermented in stainless before being bottled unfiltered.
Bright and taut green apple, lemon, white flowers, and pear stream along the medium body, with a custard apple core, and stony finish. Great value for white Bourgogne.

hidden first line: Fitapreta Vinhos Mecanica Mecânica
Fitapreta Vinhos
a Laranja Mecânica
This is Antonio Maçanita's Clockwork Orange. Arinto, Roupeiro, Verdelho, Antão Vaz, Alincante Branco, Trincadeira-das-Pratas, Fernão Pires make up the Alentejo coferment blend, from various granite-soiled vineyards and vines 15-50 years old. After the first whole bunch pressing, 10-15% of the remaining juice macerated on the skins for a week, and then was pressed again and reunited with the whole, where it native fermented. It remained in stainless on lees until it was bottled, unfiltered, the following fall.
Sharpened apricot, Asian pear, anise, and tangerine skeet across the lightly textural palate, livened with a buzzy granitic grip. There's a lovely flow to this angular wine, trailing off with a saline wash.
