This is 60/40 sangiovese/merlot from the historic estate, built by Donatella Cinelli Colombini's ancestors in 1592 (reflected by the red lion on the label). This organic younger vine red spends 6 months in medium / large oak.
Baked cherry, plum is scented with balsam and gripped with finely gritty tannins, finishing with a warming kiss of kirsch. Partner this rustic red with winter stews and braises.
"Dusty in character and darkly floral, the 2021 Orcia Leone Rosso slowly emerges with an alluring bouquet of dried violets, stone dust and wild blueberries. This is soothingly roundand supple, with accents of tart red berry fruits offsetting silken textures as a bitter tinge of clove emerges toward the close. This tapers off with a chewy sensation and tart blackberry concentration, leaving edgy tannins to resonate. A year or two of cellaring will be necessary for the 2021 to blossom fully.
