Churton Wines
Marlborough, New Zealand
Sam and Mandy Weaver founded Churton with organic roots more than 30 years ago, at a time when organic farming was basically unheard of in Marlborough. Their sons, Ben and Jack, are how at the helm of this close family winery, stewarding the project into the future.
The Weavers are known for their distinctive and pure-fruited organic and biodynamically farmed wines coming from their hillside vineyards in Marlborough’s Waihopai Valley.

Sauvignon Blanc
From Churton's organic and biodynamically farmed hillside vineyard above the Waihopai Valley, this was whole bunch pressed and native fermented long and slow in a mix of stainless and barrel, with each plot vinified separately and held on lees for 9 months prior to racking and bottling. Bright and punchy passionfruit leads, followed by pink grapefruit, tangerine, crunchy green apple, and stony spice along the juicy palate. Snappy and fresh.
“Subtle and elegant: that’s how Churton’s 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough is best described. Pure like glacial water with fine, lacy texture, its flavors are delicate and refined. Readers can expect restrained floral notes, sweet apple and nectarine, and the merest hint of flinty character. It has rich substance within its mid-weight core, and the finish is long and texturally complex. That’s not something you can say about a lot of Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs, but the Churton does its own thing. Drinking window 2024-2027.” - 94 points, Rebecca Gibb, Vinous
"Churton is a renowned biodynamic producer with hillside vineyards in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough. This is fulsome, quite powerful and intense and exotic sauvignon with all kinds of green olive, fresh dill, tarragon and kiwi. It’s medium-full bodied, broad and generous with excellent to outstanding flavour depth. Very engaging if a bit out of the mainstream. To which I say - amen. Tasted May 2025.” - 93 points, David Lawrason, WineAlign.com
"Hard to find a more aromatically zesty Marlborough sauvignon blanc and yet also one with a veritable Sancerre-ness approach than this ’23 by Churton. Comes by way of their organic and biodynamic farmed hillside vineyard above the Waihopai Valley and dio mio, man is this one seductive umami-laden sauvignon. Should you find yourself needing a pick me up with passion (also the fruit) and style, look to this stunner from the Southern Valleys. Drink 2025-2029. Tasted May 2025." - 93 points, Michael Godel, WineAlign.com
