Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino 2019

Francesco Ripaccioli is the third generation, along with his brother and sister, taking care of these lands. Francesco took over the winemaking from his father, overseeing the 19 vineyards across 2 cru, including their estate vineyards on the famed Montosoli Hill. This, their flagship Brunello, is equal parts Montosoli (galestro) and Canalicchio (brown clay).

From the stellar 2019 vintage, this Brunello charms with fragrant black cherry and black raspberry, structured with long, fine, firm tannins. This powerful, finessed red is seasoned with darker florals and scrubby herbal balsam, rosemary, and anise. Very elegant and well knit, finishing fresh and saline. Really striking, drinking beautifully now and with ample time in your cellar.

“Dusty violets, lavender and cloves accentuate dried black cherries as the dramatic 2019 Brunello di Montalcino smolders up from the glass. This is impossible to ignore, bursting with energy as depths of ripe red fruits, chalky minerals and exotic spices saturate all they touch, balanced by textures of pure silk. The 2019 finishes with fantastic length and concentration, leaving a staining of tart blackberry and hints of orange that curl the tongue as crunchy tannins tug at the palate. It’s rare to see such a combination of vibrancy and power. Canalicchio di Sopra nailed it in 2019. Wow. Drink 2026-2042.” - 96 points, Eric Guido, Vinous

Señorio de P. Peciña Crianza Rioja 2019

Bodegas Hermanos de Peciña is firmly planted in traditional Rioja, one of perhaps a dozen of producers adhering to the tenets passed down through generations. This includes long aging in mostly neutral American oak, regular open-air racking by hand (called trasiego), and then further aging in bottle often well beyond the specifications required by the DO. Founder Pedro Peciña had over two decades of working in Rioja Alta before opening his own Bodega in 1992. This wine is a blend of Tempranillo (95%), Graciano (3%), and Garnacha (2%), from various calcareous-clay vineyards, and vines averaging 40 years old. The wine ages 2 years in used American oak barrels, and 1.5 years in bottle prior to release.

"The textbook traditional red 2019 Señorío de P. Peciña Crianza was produced with their classical blend of Tempranillo with small percentages of Garnacha and Graciano. It fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in used American oak barrels following the most orthodox tradition, for two years, a lot longer than required to obtain the category. It has spicy notes, a hint of cigar box and forest floor and is a powerful and ripe year, when the wine achieved 14.36% alcohol and good freshness and acidity. It has a medium to full-bodied palate with a chalky mouthfeel, fine tannins and a slightly dusty and rustic touch that would welcome food. It was bottled in May 2022." 92 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Blomidon Estate Winery Tidal Bay 2024

"This is a squeaky clean, bright, beautifully balanced Tidal Bay - the unique Nova Scotia designation that only permits NS grapes in the blend, and that the wine cannot exceed 11%. This sits at 10% using mainstay L'Acadie Blanc with Seyval Blanc and New York Muscat, the latter projecting the lifted floral and grapefruit aromas. The nose also shows green apple, lime and spearmint. It dances and tingles with great acidity balanced perfectly by some sweetness. Very well made, with very good length. Chill well. Tasted July 2025". 91 points, David Lawrason, Wine Align

Blomidon Estate Winery Baco Noir 2024

"Blomidon's Simon Rafuse is a good winemaker, here turning often coarse baco noir into a deeply coloured, lively, even and juicy, chillable red. Baco naturally has all the refreshing acidity you could ask for, and naturally low tannin. But he has brought out blueberry and herbal fruit charm to offset the rather root-veggie, roasted beet aromas of this hybrid variety. The length is very good to excellent. Chill a bit. Tasted June 2026". 89 points, David Lawrason, Wine Align
