Natural Zweigelt
Natural is Fritz Wieninger's experimental range of wines, still biodynamic, as is his family's Weingut Wieninger. The grapes for the Zweigelt come from two old vineyards in Ried Weisleiten on Vienna's Nussberg. The soils are heavy and quite iron-rich. These Zweigelt had a 9 week maceration and native ferment on skins before 6 months in concrete eggs, prior to bottling unfined, unfiltered, and with no sulphur. Wild and herbal plum, blackberry, boysenberry are etched with a concrete grip, and threaded with a green edged note. Tannins are softly furry, and acidity is tart. Give this quite natural wine a light chill and enjoy with sausages.
