Oceano Wines is a boutique winery founded in 2016 in San Luis Obispo Coast, the newly designated AVA highlighting this cool climate wine region. This comes off the Spanish Springs Vineyard, the westernmost vineyard in the US, 1.5 miles from the Pacific, on a mix of marine shale, limestone, sandstone. This Pinot Noir is a mix of Swan, 828, 667, and 777, fermented in tank and then moved to 228L French barrels for 8 months' aging. Fragrant raspberries, wild strawberries, cherry blossoms waft from the glass and continue throughout the silken palate. Acidity feels effortless and easy here, with the marine freshness buoying this, and fine, supple tannins framing. The finish lingers with salinity, easily encouraging another glass.

“The producer claims this is the closest vineyard to the Ocean in California, a bit more than a mile from Pismo Beach, with soils of marine shale, limestone and sandstone studded with marine fossils. Whole-berry fermentation inoculated in stainless-steel tank. Aged in French oak for eight months. 597 cases made. Smells of bright raspberry fruit and hints of redcurrant. Beautifully tangy raspberry, redcurrant and sour-cherry flavours have a wonderful crystalline purity and lovely saline kick in the finish. Wispy, barely perceptible tannins. "Coming from a mix of clones (828, 667, 777, and Swan), the 2021 Pinot Noir Oceano Spanish Springs Vineyard spent nine months in Burgundy barrels before bottling. Its ruby/purple hue is followed by a perfumed, expressive, medium-bodied Pinot Noir with bright mulberry and raspberry fruit, notes of sappy herbs, flowers, and orange blossom, some exotic marine-like iron nuances, fine tannins, and nicely integrated acidity.
