Familienweingut Sattlerhof Sudsteiermark

Familienweingut Sattlerhof
Morillon Reid Kapellenweingarten

The Sattler family has been growing wine in the village of Gamlitz since 1887, and they were one of the first in the region to bottle high quality dry white wines under their own name in the 1970s. Willi Sattler is the current family member in charge and has grown the estate to 35 hectares of biodynamically farmed vines in some of the region’s most famous vineyards. This 1er cru site is at 600m, the last hillside before the alps. Morillon vines (the local name for Chardonnay) are rooted in the gravels and stones that have washed down from those mighty mountains. This was native fermented and aged in large old oak. Ripe lemon, green apple, pear blossom swirls with lees, and is lit with a humming stony acidity, propelling this to the subtly smoked finish. Alpine chardy, quite distinctly.

“Round and supple, with yellow apple and fresh tarragon flecked with white mocha and herbal freshness. Crisp and fresh, with a whiff of vanilla on the finish. Drink now. 305 cases made, 50 cases imported.” - 89 points, Kristin Bieler, Wine Spectator
