Mixed Case Summertime Sippers

CA$323.00

MIXED CASE : SUMMERTIME SIPPERS 8

Each case contains 2 bottles of the following wines:

Mirco Mariotti Smarazen NV, IGT Emilia Bianco, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. $25
Mirco Mariotti makes natural wines in the Bosco Eliceo area in the eastern part of Emilia-Romagna. The vines grow 300 meters from the Adriatic sea and many are well over 100 years old. They are gnarly non-grafted vines with roots that dig as deep as two meters in the sandy soil and into the aquifer below. Mariotti’s wines are named after local card games the locals play. This pét-nat of 70% trebbiano and 30% malvasia di candia is from 50-100 year old vines. Lightly fizzy, with white melon, tart tangerine, white pepper on a brisk, lightly astringent palate. Refreshing and lively at 12%.

FitaPreta Branco 2023, VR Alentejano, Alentejo, Portugal. $20
This blend of Roupeiro, Rabo de Ovelha, Antão Vaz, Tamarez, Alicante Branco, and Arinto are sourced from 2 organic vineyards in Alentejo's granitic and limestone soils, and vines from 30-50 years, up to 400m in altitude. After a whole bunch press and a native ferment in primarily stainless barrels (the second pressing goes into older barrels), this remained there on lees for six months before bottling. Pine nuts, quince, and green fig ride along a honeysuckle-slicked palate, seasoned amply with buzzy granite grip. Lovely balance and flow here.

Bodegas Hermanos de Peciña Señorío de P Peciña Blanco 2021, DOCG Rioja, Spain. $21
Bodegas Hermanos de Peciña is firmly planted in traditional Rioja, one of perhaps a dozen of producers adhering to the tenets passed down through generations. This includes long aging in mostly neutral American oak of 4-10 years, regular open-air racking by hand (called trasiego), and then further aging in bottle often well beyond the specifications required by the DO. Founder Pedro Peciña had over two decades of working in Rioja Alta before opening his own Bodega in 1992. This Viura was destemmed and left for 24 hours maceration in stainless, before native fermentation where it remains on lees for at least 6 months.

Sattlerhof Sauvignon Blanc 2023, DAC Südsteiermark, Styria, Austria. $32
Sattlerhof is a leading producer in Austria’s South Styria (Südsteiermark), known for their benchmark examples of Styrian Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc. The Sattler family has been growing wine in the village of Gamlitz since 1887, and they were one of the first in the region to bottle high quality dry white wines under their own name in the 1970s. Willi Sattler grew the estate to 40 hectares of organically / biodynamically farmed vines in some of the region’s most famous vineyards including grand crus Kranachberg and Pfarrweingarten, now joined by his two sons Andreas and Alexander. Their vineyards are centered around the village of Gamlitz, located less than 10km from the Slovenian border. Crunchy tangerine, white grapefruit, lime zest streaks across the palate, with an ever so slight slick of lees to buffer the buzzing acidity. Snappy and singing, and an excellent introduction to Südsteiermark.

Tinhof Rosé 2024, Burgunland, Austria. $25
From Burgenland’s Eisenstaedter vineyard, this organic Blaufränkisch is from vines 34-49 years old, rooted in calcareous clays and gravels, at 180-220m. It was native fermented in steel, where it remained for a brief time on lees before bottling. The delicate pink hue is mirrored with the delicate blossoms opening the palate, followed by crunchy and fresh pink grapefruit, perfumed Asian pear, tangerine, all lit with a buzzy energy running the length of this sleek, bone dry pink.

Olivier Coste Old Star Carignan 2021, IGP Pays d'Oc, Languedoc, France. $21
Since his childhood, Olivier Coste’s favourite places to play have been the vineyards and the family wine cellar at Domaine Montrose, his family’s wine estate founded in 1701 in Pézenas. With this upbringing, Olivier developed a profound attachment to the Languedoc’s terroir and landscape, and later to its wines. This was fermented and aged in stainless, to preserve the purity of the older bush vines. Baked plum, boysenberry is lit with a buzzy acidity, and framed with fine, sticky tannins, finishing with cracked stones and a dusting of pepper. A substantial red, yet a lovely 13% take on Carignan. Try with grilled pork.
