Champagne Marie Copinet
Nos Pas Dans… La Terre Complantée Brut Nature

Marie-Laure Copinet and her winemaker husband Alexandre Kowal have taken over her family's estate, founded by her father Jacques in 1975. Before then, the Copinets were selling their fruit to Moet, but Jacques' work at Taittinger led him to decide to create their own grower champagne (RM) estate. They are based in the tiny Champagne village of Montgenost (population 140) in the Côtes des Sézanne, and they own 9 hectares of vineyards in Côtes des Sézanne, Côtes des Bar, and Vallée de la Marne, producing only 5,500 cases annually, and began organic conversion in 2018. Nos pas dans... is a series of soil / grape studies put out by Marie Copinet.

Complantée is a field blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from the plot of La Charbonnière, in the village of Brouillet, situated in the little-known Vallée de l'Ardre, east of Reims. The soils are dark and crumbly, as seen on the label. It was native fermented and vinified in large oak (60%) and stainless, and is from the 2019 vintage. It remained sur lattes until November 2025, when it was disgorged with 0 dosage.

"From a complanted parcel of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in the Vallée de l'Ardre. Lieu-dit La Charbonnière. Zero dosage. Lemon-blossom, lemon-curd nose. Very slightly richer and rounder than the Copinet Chardonnay wines, but with masses of chalky texture and flavour. Like all these Copinet champagnes, terse and brisk on the finish. Drink 2024-2028.” 16.5/20 points, Jancis Robinson
