Blaufrankisch

from CA$31.00

Weingut Heinrich

Weingut Heinrich
Blaufrankisch

With organic / biodynamic grapes sourced from the east and west side of the Neusiedler See (Lake Neusiedl), this blends grapes growing in the limestone and schist of the Leithaberg (Leitha Mountains), as well as the sandy loams on the Parndorfer Platte (Parndorfer Plain). This was native fermented with two weeks maceration on the skins in wooden vats and steel tank before 39 months aging in wooden vats and in used 500-litre oak barrels. Dusky blackberry, black cherry, crushed violets and broken stones are hugged by grippy tannins, holding this to a firm finish. Nice purity and freshness in this darker blaufrankisch, primed for grilled fare now.

"This maturing blaufrankisch has settled into a mellow state, with smooth texture yet some juicy liveliness as well. The aromas are jammy berry with notable meatiness and peppery spice. It is medium weight, well balanced and shows some fine tannin. The length is excellent. It strikes me as being much like an Italian red. Best now to 2026. Tasted Sept 2023.” - 89 points, David Lawrason, WineAlign.com.
