Weingut Heinrich
Chardonnay Leithaberg

This organic / biodynamic chardy is taken from east facing limestone and schist slopes of the Leithaberg (Leitha Mountains), with the main portions taken from the Spiegel, Kirchberg and Alter Berg vineyards in Winden, and the Fügler in Jois. Grapes also come from the Edelgraben and Zwergsbreiten sites in Breitenbrunn. After overnight skin contact, the must goes into tank very brown. It was fermented in tank, then into oval casks for 7 months on lees. Stony green apple, sharp lemon streams across the textural palate, driven by tight, buzzy acidity, and finishing with lingering salinity. Much energy here, this rock juice is drinking beauty now, and with time ahead. 9,000 bottles.

"This is a classy take on chardonnay, catching some of the richness and tonalities we have come to expect from other regions, but laying it out on a more delicate and lithe frame. Expect fairly generous aromas of baked peach, a touch of honey, wood spice and toast. There is a floral note that reminded my of lily. It is medium bodied, smooth and warm, with lively acidity and some minerality. The length is excellent, trailing wood spice. Tasted Sept 2023.” - 91 points, David Lawrason, WineAlign.
