Niederösterreich Pinot Noir
From vineyards in Gumpoldskirchen and Langenlois, this was native fermented over 3 weeks, entirely whole bunch, before resting 1 year in 300L oak casks, plus 6 months in large oak, and then 4 months in stainless tank before bottling, without fining or filtration, and minimal SO2.
"Lovely, sultry, floral, complex and engaging pinot, biodynamically-produced from leading vigneron Fred Loimer, a wine of terrific finesse and elegance from estate vineyards in the Thermenregion (Gumpoldskirchen) and the Kamptal (Langenlois). It spends 12 months in small 300l oak casks and 6 months in large cask before bottling. I love the silky texture, the smouldering sour cherry fruit, hibiscus and red currant, integrated old wood spice, lingering perfume and sapid, umami-rich finish. Such a fine and delicate example, drinking well now but should continue to evolve positively through the end of the decade for the fully mature version. And to think this is Loimer's entry-level pinot... Tasted October 2024.” - 93 points, John Szabo, MS, WineAlign.com
“Organic, biodynamic and while not classified as “natural,” in many worlds it could and should. Native yeasts see to the 100 percent whole bunch, three week fermentation and so Loimer goes at it without encumbrance, but still he chooses to stay out of the discussion. The aging is one year in 300L casks, plus six months in larger vessels, followed by another four in steel. No fining or filtering adds to the natural mystique, or absence there of I guess - not to mention minimal use of SO2. So what does it all mean? For the most excellent vintage it results in a helluva fine and effusive pinot noir, varnished and polished, combining the effects of Gumpoldskirchen and Langenlois in layers of fruit and earth, stitched together as one contiguous varietal entity. Expert acumen and a finish tied up in a bow of sweet volatility. Drink 2024-2027. Tasted October 2024.” - 92 points, Michael Godel, WineAlign.com
