Controcorrente
Controcorrente
Friuli, Italy
Controcorrente translates as 'against the mainstream' in Italian. This is a boutique vermouth company, using organic Veneto grapes and Mediterranean botanicals. It was created by experienced winemaker Enrico Ciroi, who fell hard for natural wine when he opened a small restaurant in his hometown. In a quest to fashion vermouth in a similar provenance-forward fashion, he’s teamed up with vigneron Daniele Piccinin to release a forward-thinking trio of aromatised wines. These are slightly lower in sugar than traditional Torino-style vermouths.

Vermouth Rosso
Controcorrente translates as 'against the mainstream' in Italian. This is a boutique vermouth, using organic Veneto grapes and Mediterranean botanicals. This comes from Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes, imbued with thyme, helichrysum, and rhubarb. Very potent, with ample scrubby herbaceous spice, resin, wild plum and perfumed cherry. The ample brown cast sugar is offset by a beam of acidity, leading this to a lingering spiced finish. Quite smart, and would be fantastico in negroni or with pannetone.
