Elena Fucci
Titolo Superiore Riserva

Elena Fucci grew up in the middle of the vineyards that her grandfather Generoso began farming in the 1960’s, selling the fruit to the local cooperative. Rather than sell off the family properties in 2000, Elena Fucci took on the challenge of stewarding the oldest vineyards on Monte Vulture, forever changing the future of the Aglianico del Vulture DOC. The vineyards are rooted at 600m, on the steep slopes of the dormant volcanic cliffs. This Aglianico Superiore Riserva comes from a 70 year old parcel and was native fermented in stainless before finishing MLF in 200L French barrels (50% new) where it remained for 1 year, followed by 2 more years in new 500L tonneaux. It rested in bottle 1 more year before release.

“It’s hard to pull away from the 2017 Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Riserva Titolo, as it comes in waves with balsam herbs, menthol and cloves up front, giving way to plum skins, dried cherries and dusty rose. This rushes the palate with full-bodied weight and velvety textures, contrasted by masses of tart red and black berries, minerals and exotic spice. There’s so much density and complexity within which only time will fully reveal, yet still there’s so much to take in already today. The Riserva finishes with tremendous length, potent and structured, with cheek-puckering tannins and licorice-tinged black currants that mingle throughout. This is a total show-stopped that transcends the vintage. The Riserva is produced from some of Fucci’s oldest vines and goes through malolactic fermentation in 200-litre barriques (50% new) for a year, after this is followed by another two years in a single 500-litre tonneaux. There are only around 400 magnums produced. Drink 2026-2039.” - 96+ points, Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2021.
