Juxtaposed is a collaborative trio of wine-driven mates. Viticulturist Peter Bolte, veteran of more than 40 vintages in McLaren Vale, grower Peter Sommerville, and Canadian winemaker and research scientist Wes Pearson finalized the partnership and formed the winery on a handshake in 2010. 

Since then, they have slowly grown their garagiste operation into a small working winery. Through Juxtaposed, they explore low-intervention, free-form, terroir-driven wines. With their striking labels, pop culture names, and fresh, detailed focus, Juxtaposed is one of the leading new wave Australia producers.

From McLaren Vale's Sellicks Foothills subregion, and Lacey vineyard, this fiano was native fermented on full lees in a mix of old oak barrels and tank. Ripe pear, white peach is flooded with juicy pink apple, and seasoned with stony spice, with a pear skin grip pinning in the sides. Juicy and joyous, ready for cracking now.

From the old block at Blewitt Springs' Sherry Vineyard, this was planted in 1955, and has been a backbone of Juxtaposed's Shiraz program over the past 5 years. Sadly, the vineyard sold, and this was the last vintage of this special wine. Deeply ferrous, this concentrated shiraz teems with black cherry, blackberry, anise, flake salts, and liquorice stretching across a rich, yet svelte palate. Tannins are well worn and sunken into the dense fruit, scented with blackberry blossoms, and seasoned with fine black pepper. For all its density, it carries an equal part of freshness, which will guarantee it a long life ahead. 1600 bottles.

From the Wait Vineyard in Blewitt Springs, and the Smart Vineyard in Clarendon, this year's OV Grenache is particularly concentrated due to the drought year and poor weather. This was fermented in open fermenters, pressed to tank for settling, and racked to old oak barrels for aging. Medicinal hewn cherry, raspberry, red earth rests on a base of worn leather, studded with flake salts, and glowing with a gentle humming acidity. Tannins are worn fine and supple, hugging this through a pink peppercorn spiced finish. Lovely concentration and thoughtfulness here.

From the sandy corner block of the Wait Vineyard in Blewitt Springs, planted in 1943, this was crushed and destemmed, fermented in open top fermenters, and aged in old Hungarian oak. Sultry blackberry, black cherry, medicinal boysenberry fills the chewy, velvet palate, perfumed with musk, scented with light smoke, and framed with plump, sticky tannins. Ample concentration here, ready for your roasted pork / veg dishes.
